The Rapture 'Pieces Of The People We Love'

On first listening – for an Eighties synth pop geek like myself – The Rapture’s latest album, ‘Pieces Of The People We Love’ sounds pretty good. At least initially, The Rapture’s groovy punky, funky sound is pretty cool – especially the single ‘Get Myself Into It’ with its irresistible chorus and ‘The Devil’. Even some of the less synth-based stuff, such as the ‘Kid A’-esque ‘Calling Me’ and the scuzzy distortion of ‘The Sound’ sound pretty good on first listen… After a few spins, though, it becomes increasingly obvious that there’s nothing here which can match the majestic ‘House of Jealous Lovers’, which is a real shame. So, ‘Pieces…’ is a half decent album, but unfortunately, The Rapture’s fanbase will be expecting a lot more than that…
