Enniskillen Castle, situated beside the River Erne in County Fermanagh, was built almost 600 years ago by the ruling Gaelic Maguires. Guarding one of the few passes into Ulster, it has been strategically important throughout its history. Today, the historic site houses two museums, Fermanagh County Museum and The Inniskillings Museum.

Fermanagh County Museum is a registered museum, under the MLA Accreditation Scheme for museums in the United Kingdom. The museum is located within and around the historic Enniskillen Castle and was established in 1976 by Fermanagh District Council.
The museum collections reflect Fermanagh's history, culture and environment.
One of the aims of the museum is to enlarge these collections so as to cover as many aspects of Fermanagh's culture as possible. One of our primary concerns is the long-term preservation of these collections for future generations.
Throughout the year, the Museum provides a changing exhibition programme, covering a wide diversity of subjects, of local as well as general interest. It organises many different kinds of events, including lectures, Living History events, craft demonstrations, storytelling, poetry and prose readings, various commemorative events and many types of family entertainment programmes during the summer, at Christmas and at Hallowe'en. Its education programmes meet the needs of those in formal education as well as providing resources for life-long learning.
Fermanagh County Museum is open all year round. Its award winning exhibitions cover the prehistory and natural history of Fermanagh, the county's traditional rural life, local crafts and the celebrated pottery at Belleek. Additional displays within Enniskillen Castle trace the long and complex history of this building from its original use as a stronghold of the local Gaelic Maguire chieftains to its later use as a Plantation castle and military barracks.
Another attraction within Enniskillen Castle is The Inniskillings Museum with its collection of uniforms, weapons, medals and memorabilia dating back to the 17th Century.
