Welcome to Bennigans
For generations this unique venue has been offering the city and its visitors an open and homely atmosphere, fine beverages and the best of live entertainment. Over the years it has evolved to become a very special music venue and a hub for Creative Culture. This small but ambitious venue hosts its very own gallery, a quirky shop, an annual Christmas Fare, a wide range of beers including local brewers Northbound and an interesting selection of cocktails with a local twist.
As a creative culture hub we are always interested to meet new people, hear about new ideas and make concepts into reality. If there is anything you’d like to tell us about; from launching an album, hosting a reunion, celebrating a special day, developing a portfolio of work or if you have an idea for an event please get in contact with us.
Quality Pub
On the window you will see ‘quality pub’ written into the stained glass. This concept is ingrained in the ethos of the venue and is most evident in the people you will meet at this venue. You’ll be greeted by friendly staff and locals who will engage you in the daily banter, introduce you to the quirks of the place and who’ll go out of their way to make you feel welcome.
“Bennigans Bar & Jazz Club is a great intimate venue – a hidden musical and cultural gem sitting quietly on John Street, Derry” – Customer on Trip Advisor
The ‘quality’ ethos is why it attracts the best of Irish and international musicians who perform as part of the seven nights of live entertainment. It’s piano has been played by the likes of Jaime Cullum, Jason Rebello, Neil Cowley and Duke Special and has accompanied the likes of Louis Stewart and Terell Stafford. The legenderry Gay MacIntyre is resident artist with owner/pianist John Leighton and his trio every Saturday evening where they play to a packed house weekly. As well as the big names, Bennigans is proud to host weekly ‘open mic’ and ‘introducing’ nights for emerging artists which has been a springboard for success stories like Choice Music Award winner SOAK. Our venue also played host to Walking on Cars during RTE’s ‘Other Voices’ when hosted here in the city. Check out their live acoustic session below.
