For loud, dumb action fun, it's damned hard to beat 'Crank', another brainless actioner starring Britain's answer to Arnold Schwarzenegger, Jason Statham...
In a cross between 1950's noir 'D.O.A.' and modern action classic 'Speed', Statham stars as an LA hitman who's been injected with a deadly Chinese toxin, which will kill him if his heart rate drops below a certain level. Now, he's in a race against time to take revenge on those who poisoned him...
'Crank' uses its utterly dumb premise to throw Statham into a myriad of bizarre action-packed set-pieces, as he desperately tries to keep his heart-rate up, by any means possible, from engaging in extreme violence to having sex in public (really!).
The movie is really, really stupid, but really, really enjoyable... And Statham certainly does the action hero thing very well indeed...
