Ryan Young & Jenn Butterworth with ALFI double bill

Type : Gigs

Quite simply, Ryan Young is one of the most exciting fiddle players working today.

At just 27, Ryan has won the ears of the fiddle masters who came before him, collecting countless accolades along the way, including an MG Alba Music Award, numerous Best Album nods, and multiple nominations for the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards. His playing brings a new lease of life to older and often forgotten Scottish tunes, delivering performances that are soulful, exciting and full of rhythmic drive. Ryan’s engaging and modest stage presence belies his phenomenal musical virtuosity. Taking inspiration from a number of great Irish players, notably Clare fiddlers Bobby Casey, Paddy Canny, PJ and Martin Hayes, Ryan now leads a new wave of players who are all at once revisiting and reinventing the tradition. Joining Young in Belfast is one of Glasgow’s foremost folk guitarists, Jenn Butterworth. The go-to collaborator, Jenn has been a key member of many high-profile folk projects, including 3 Celtic Connections New Voices, folk supergroup Songs of Separation, and has been nominated for Young Musician of the Year in the 2019 BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards.
