31st Galway Film Fleadh

Type : Festivals

The Galway Film Fleadh is a six day international film event held every July. We welcome a mad diversity of filmmaking from all around the world, all generations and cultural backgrounds. There are no red carpets at the Galway Film Fleadh, we bring luminaries of the craft and everyday cinephiles together within an intimate environment to celebrate our shared passion for film.

Founded in 1989, borne out of a sense of frustration at the lack of opportunity for Irish filmmakers to exhibit their work to their peers, the first Galway Film Fleadh set about addressing this imbalance while offering the people of Galway an alternative to the mainstream fair that dominated the city’s only two cinemas at the time. In the time since, the Irish film industry and the Galway Film Fleadh have grown in tandem with one another – including the resurrection of the Irish Film Board and the establishment of the Galway Film Fair, the UK and Ireland’s first dedicated film market.

Now in its 31st year, the central goal of the Galway Film Fleadh remains unchanged: to be a platform for the boldest new films and to bring audiences and filmmakers from around the world together to share in the wonder of cinema.
