“Yes” Molly’s Soliloquy

Type : Theatre

Yes” Molly’s Soliloquy is a theatrical adaptation to stage based on the enigmatic final chapter of James Joyce’s Ulysses.

Unlike Penelope, Molly is not the chaste character who awaits the arrival of her lost love. Joyce portrays her through a stream of consciousness, as a strong yet whimsical woman. Infused with music from Montiverdi's opera, Conor Maguire's adaptation offers a fresh interpretation of this most challenging and cherished piece of literature.

Molly Bloom lies in bed, her husband Leopold having returned home and fallen asleep beside her and so begins one of Joyce’s most breathless, raunchy and explosive pieces of writing. Molly reminisces on memories of past affairs, her current liaison with Blazes Boylan, her suspicions regarding Leopold Bloom’s clandestine sexual encounters and her early days with Bloom.

Having premiered at the Belfast Book Festival, we’re pleased to welcome this wonderful piece of theatre to The Crescent.
