The Grand Opera House Summer Youth Project returns in July 2019 for its ninth year with not just one but two unmissable productions – Miss Saigon® School Edition (16-18 year olds) and Bugsy Malone (10-18 year olds).Sixty of the most talented 16-18 year olds in Northern Ireland will come together to stage one of the Grand Opera House’s most ambitious youth productions to date, Cameron Mackintosh’s stunning Miss Saigon® School Edition.
A tragedy of passion and beauty, Miss Saigon is one of the most stunning theatrical spectacles of all time. Nominated for an incredible number of Olivier, Tony and Drama Desk Awards, it has now been adapted for young people in Miss Saigon® School Edition.
Set in the turmoil of the Vietnam War, Chris, an American soldier, and Kim, a Vietnamese girl, fall in love and marry, but are distressingly separated when Chris leaves Vietnam in a hurry as Saigon falls. Left behind, Kim waits faithfully for his return, but when circumstances bring Chris back to Vietnam many years later, they are reunited, with devastating consequences.
Miss Saigon® School Edition is an epic, daring musical that is universal in its emotional power. Its impressive score includes The Movie in My Mind, Last Night of the World and American Dream.
