The Story of William, Who Died

Type : Theatre

This is the story of a man who dies.

London 1890.

A young aspiring Irish artist sets himself the task of surviving in a city thriving from an industrial revolution. Haunted by illness, William’s only escape is through the worlds he creates in his art. But within the lingering smog that hangs constant over the growing city, he finds himself consumed by darkness.

Following on from the international success of ‘Melancholy’, award winning theatre company Certain Dark Things brings to life this stunning new play by Belfast-born Stephen McCabe.

This play combines poetic language, fast paced physical theatre and mask, to tell the enchanting story of William, an Irish artist who moves to London to pursue his dreams and struggles to survive as the industrial revolution sweeps the city and his mental state begins to decline. It aims to explore the subject of mental illness and the healing power of art in a creative and cathartic way in hopes of opening the conversation and reducing stigma surrounding male mental illness.
