Apollo’s Fire

Type : Concerts

Long ago, the sparkling fiddle tunes and haunting ballads of the British Isles crossed the water, taking root in the hills of Virginia. They mingled with Southern hymns and African spirituals – creating the soulful music we call Appalachian. The people of the mountains raise their voices in celebration of daily life – LOVE, SINGING, DANCING AND PRAYER.

Apollo’s Fire, hailed as “the USA’s hottest baroque band” (Classical Music Magazine), has brought its lively and life-affirming programs to such venues as the BBC Proms and the Aldeburgh Festival. For their Irish debut, Apollo’s Fire and their award-winning director Jeannette Sorrell bring their hit program “Sugarloaf Mountain” – a #5 bestseller album on Billboard Classical. Ten performers explore the Celtic roots of Appalachian music, while following the stories of the Irish and Scottish immigrants who made the crossing to build new lives in the Appalachian hills of America.
