One of the most significant figures in Irish music and arguably the greatest acoustic harmonica player in the world
Don Baker is rightly regarded as one of Irish music’s leading lights over the last 35 years. His natural talent on harmonica and guitar manifested itself in his early teens. Attracted to blues music he spent the best part of his 20’s on the road across Europe, paying his dues, travelling on trains, sleeping on floors.
His Irish breakthrough came in 1979 with his song ‘Dublin’s Inner City’ and he has remained as one of Irish music’s most significant figures ever since. While he enjoys a solid reputation as a singer, guitarist and songwriter it is Don’s harmonica playing which elevates him into the elite, rated by many as the greatest acoustic harmonica player in the world.
The esteem with which he is held in is evident by the who’s who of Irish artists who queued up to collaborate on his latest album the 2013 My Songs, My Friends – Liam O Maonlai, Brian Kennedy, Gemma Hayes, Finbar Furey, Sinead O Connor, Eleanor McEvoy, John Spillane, Paddy Casey, Declan O’Rourke and more.
