The Comedy Of Errors

Type : Theatre

Following the phenomenal success of ‘Allo’ Allo!’ Enniskillen Amateur Dramatic Society returns with William Shakespeare’s ‘The Comedy of Errors’.
One afternoon a traveller and his servant, both looking for their long-lost twin brothers, arrive in the 17th Century Caribbean pirate town of Port Royal, Jamaica, where their brothers, who were never told that they had twins, are happily settled. Chaos ensues as the townfolk mistake the visitors for the residents and the servants are mistaken for each other by their masters.

A fast-paced romp through mistaken identities soon has the twins exasperated, bemused, confounded and running for their lives. Swords are drawn but no-one is injured; a wife dines but not with her husband; a sister is proposed to by her brother-in-law; a man is barred from his own house by his own servants; a gold chain is given but not paid for; arrests are made, prisoners escape and a doctor gives a diagnosis. More like a farce than your typical Shakespeare play!

The Lyric Theatre, Belfast, and The Royal Shakespeare Company have provided guidance, skills training and directing support to EADS through the RSC’s Open Stages Project.
