The Night Dances

Type : Theatre

A UK & Irish Premiere

Explore the subtleties of Benjamin Britten's composition for cello through the lens of the American Poet, Sylvia Plath, considered one of the leading cultivators of confessional poetry. Actress Charlotte Rampling reads in French and English, and Sonia Wieder-Atherton performs cello suites of Britten, in a moving performance, the only UK & Ireland date before a 2015 tour.

Fifty years after the death of Sylvia Plath and one hundred years after the birth of Benjamin Britten, the performance invites audiences to celebrate their new beginning, listening to each other. The one with the other.

Charlotte Rampling, who has starred in over 80 films working with directors such as Woody Allen and will play a lead role in the new 2nd Series of the award winning TV drama Broadchurch, takes to the Lyric stage in a very different role from her sex symbol status of The Night Porter or her role as Dr. Evelyn Vogel in Dexter.

PLEASE NOTE: This event will be preceded by a ticketed pre-show Talk: An Introduction to Sylvia Plath, starting at 6.30PM.
