The Suit

Type : Theatre

Based on The Suit by Can Themba, Mothobi Mutloatse and Barney Simon
Direction, adaptation and musical direction by Peter Brook, Marie-Hélène Estienne and Franck Krawczyk

Renowned European theatre and former RSC director Peter Brook demonstrates that some themes don’t wear out on stage by giving The Suit a new life, presenting in its original English language version, having previously toured the production around the world with a French adaptation.

This simple but sad South African story of infidelity centres on a middle-class lawyer who punishes his wife for being unfaithful to him by treating the suit that her lover left behind as a physical person in their life. She has to feed it, entertain and take it out for walks as a constant reminder of her adultery.

Based on the 1950s novel by South African author Can Themba who’s book was banned during apartheid and he was exiled to Swaziland.

PLEASE NOTE: A Postshow Talk entitled 'Further steps on the road To freedom' will take place after the performance on Fri 31 Oct.

Running Times: 75 Mins
