Schaubühne Berlin - An Enemy Of The People (Irish Premiere)

Schaubühne Berlin, the prestigious German theatre and one of Europe's leading theatre companies will make its NI debut at the Grand Opera House as part of the Ulster Bank Belfast Festival at Queen’s. This bold new adaptation is directed by one of the leading voices in contemporary theatre, Thomas Ostermeier, against a global backdrop of spreading immigration panics, environmental and financial crises.

A battle rages in the city. The drinking water is contaminated but—never mind the opinion of a local expert—there’s a tourism industry to protect. Factions form: to tell or not to tell?

In what could be described as controversial yet an inspired choice for current times, this dark satire of greed and corruption with a modern twist, includes live music such as David Bowie's "Changes" and brings Ibsen’s wryly comedic parable to a boil and, with help from the people, a solitary whistleblower to his knees.

*Performed in German with English Subtitles
