COCOS LOVERS + SCORPION JACK & PETE MCVEIGH

Type : Gigs

Just back from an appearance at SXSW festival in Texas – up-and-coming Cocos Lovers are capping off their Irish tour with a headline show in Belfast’s Black Box. With support from celebrated local artists Scorpion Jack and Pete McVeigh, this night promises to be one for the books.

Cocos Lovers
Operating well beyond the remit of alt-folk, Cocos Lovers (pronounced Co-Koss) are a distinctive musical force, seamlessly channelling influences from Africa and the US Deep South while staying ever faithful to their Kentish roots.
Hailing from the small but musically rich town of Deal, they are a close-knit 7-piece band of family, friends and former au pairs.

Their music swells with powerful choir-like harmonies and glorious widescreen melodies, and they’ve earned a reputation for fantastic live performances with an ever-changing instrumental line-up.
“Kent Coast folk with an African twist.”- The Independent
Scorpion Jack

Scorpion Jack are an acoustic folk rock duo: one voice, one drum, one guitar. Their performance fuses ideas from Traditional and Electronic music and creates an improbably powerful sound from so few musicians and instruments. Their sound is an inimitable blend which draws influences from Trad, Rock, Dance and Folk.

Five years in, Scorpion Jack is David (Guitar and Vocals) and Rohan (Bodhran). They have been playing regularly in their hometown of Belfast as well as expanding their audience and experiences through tours of Ireland, UK, America and Europe. Their underground status and hotly anticipated second album make 2014 an exciting year for the duo.
