Sidsel Endresen & Jan Bang

There simply isn’t another singer like Sidsel Endresen. Not in Norway, not anywhere.

Beginning alone with her remarkable vocal sounds that range from guttural utterances to what seem like brief conversational snippets, Endresen begins to weave in a more melodic phrase, as Bang samples her voice and, by feeding it back to her, creates a near cacophony of voices to which Endresen continues to respond.

That Endresen could seamlessly shift from odd vocal sounds to high register melodies and lower register spoken words at the blink of an eye, shows just how far her art has evolved.

Bang’s ever-present ability to play his equipment with the same kind of intuitive and symbiotic knowledge that is normally only heard from artists who play more “conventional” instruments, creating subtle pulses, loops and sonic washes, yet another demonstration of his ability to integrate music organically with technology, regardless of context.

The performance will no doubt be one of the highlights of the Sonorities Festival Belfast, 2014.
