Bourne Davis Kane

Type : Gigs

Meeting for the first time in 2002, Bourne Davis Kane (BDK) played a completely improvised set at the Belfast Festival at Queens, which was regarded as one of the festival highlights, earning them an instant reputation.

Emerging from the Leeds music scene, the trio features Northern Irish natives Steve Davis (drums) and Dave Kane (double bass) along with English piano virtuoso Matthew Bourne. Last year saw the trio embark on an extremely successful 10 year anniversary tour, receiving positive reviews throughout.

In March 2013, Moving on Music was awarded a New Music Biennial commission that would see the improvising jazz trio and renowned classical composer Piers Hellawell develop a unique work to be performed at major events linked to the 2014 Commonwealth Games in London and Glasgow, with the World Premiere taking place in Belfast on Saturday 29th March 2014.

The created piece named Sound Carvings, Strange Tryst saw composer and group collide in a shared space. The result is music created by all, composed, yet unrestrained. The musical journey saw composer and each of the trio leave behind established writing methods, undermining assumptions about improvising and notation.
