EXHIBITION- REBEKAH MCBRIDE; DEAD CANVASES

Type : Others

When the painting begins it doesn’t mean anything, only when its finished is the story understandable. Working on-top of an older print allows me to either ignore or incorporate the background, every time it’s in a new world.

The oldest painting in this collection is 4 years old. The non-diegetic symbols are the ancient Irish language Ruins, which is coded from a French phrase. Language is a big influence in my work, the ability communicate indirectly with the use of symbols. Each piece can be deconstructed and broken into a story.

Painting makes me feel like a scientist, day after day I get to experiment with colour, texture, and composition, creating stories, or applying colour theory, testing people’s reactions.
