“Some Loud Thunder” 10th Anniversary Tour

Clap Your Hands Say Yeah make a long overdue Belfast return when they visit the Empire Music Hall on 19 May to perform their second album in it’s entirety, alongside other highlights from their impressive catalogue.

Some Loud Thunder was a top 50 album on both sides of the Atlantic following it’s 2007 release. Produced by Dave Fridmann (known also for his work with The Flaming Lips and Mercury Rev) it marked a more experimental turn that the band’s 2005 breakout debut. The Guardian opined “Whatever it lacks in straightforward pop tunes, this album makes up for in rich, multilayered weirdness” while Q reckoned that “a mood of playful experimentation is evident throughout”. The Observer said “The band haven’t leapt off in a new direction but have capitalised on the tension between Oundsworth’s spiralling, just-about-to-fall-over vocals and the driving, zealous music that stops him”. The BBC suggested “Where the former was impulsive this one pauses for thought. With plenty of distortion, layers of Beatle-esque harmonies, and raspy vocals spat out by Alec Ounsworth, it’s enthusiastically raw ….. A solid second coming for CYHSY”.

Clap Your Hands Say Yeah are a Brooklyn and Philadelphia-based indie-rock band lead by Alec Ounsworth. Their debut album, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, was self-released in 2005, receiving attention from numerous MP3 blogs and a favorable review from Pitchfork Media, who gave the band a “Best New Music” commendation. It was a totally self made internet buzz, and the ensuing demand forced a re-press of the CD, with David Bowie and David Byrne subsequently spotted at the band’s shows. By year end Rolling Stone dubbed them the ‘Hot New Band of 2005’.

Some Loud Thunder followed in 2007and later the same year Live at Lollapalooza 2007: Clap Your Hands Say Yeah was released on iTunes. In 2011 brought the band released Hysterical, announced via a post on the band’s official website. In 2013 the band announced via email the completion of their forthcoming album called Only Run. Its first single, Coming Down, featured vocals from The National’s Matt Berninger. In February 2017 the band released fifth album The Tourist and returned to Europe for sold out shows.
