This concert sees Maestro Payare explore more of Mozart’s later symphonies. Symphony No.35 Haffner is full of festive spirit and Mozart declared it should be played “as fast as possible.” – who knows just how fast “fast” was in Mozart’s day! Symphony No.40 is an iconic classical work, used regularly in film and television and much beloved.

Alongside this, the Ulster Orchestra welcomes Jonathan Biss back to perform Mozart’s Piano Concerto No.17. One of the most thoughtful and technically accomplished performers of his generation, Biss is the perfect guest for this subtle and expressive work. The concerto’s dance-like finale was one of Mozart's personal favourites – he even taught his pet starling to sing the tune!
