Prime Cut Productions and the Lyric Theatre present Red.

1958. New York. Artist Mark Rothko is at the height of his career. But is his latest lucrative commission threatening to damage his integrity – and his creativity?

Viewed through the lens of his youthful new assistant, Ken, we witness Rothko – fiery, uncompromising, and furiously intelligent – at the pinnacle of his creativity, but struggling with the creation of a largescale commission intended for New York’s brand-new and very exclusive Four Seasons Restaurant. As Ken and Rothko paint, they challenge each other to ask big questions about art: what it takes to create it and what its role should be in the world. Based on real events, John Logan’s taut, visceral two-hander takes a compelling look at the ever- changing relationship between an artist and his creations.
Fresh from the success of Educating Rita, Emma Jordan returns to direct seasoned Lyric player Patrick O’Kane and Lyric Drama Studio alumnus Thomas Finnegan.

We will be holding a post show discussion on Thurs 20th April.
