Africarmen

Type : Theatre

Based on Georges Bizet's opera, Africarmen is a story of desire and corruption set in a modern-day oil-rich military dictatorship somewhere in Africa. Members of a local village eke out a difficult life under harsh conditions, but Carmen dreams of escape and a better life, even when the shadow of tragedy falls upon her every step.

Bawren Tavaziva's powerful choreography is performed through contemporary and African dance.

'Tavaziva's facility for devising hot, liquid motion is indisputable… His seven strong cast is sharp, swift and superbly fit' The Times

It's upbeat, impressive…This is dancing with the volume turned up.' The Guardian
