THREE EVENINGS WITH DUKE SPECIAL & GUESTS

The inimitable Duke Special signs off his year-long artistic residency at the Lyric with three very special concerts featuring new and existing compositions, including the first ever performances of songs from his new musical based on Mark Twain’s Huckleberry Finn. Duke will be joined by different friends and musical collaborators each night, resulting in three completely different concerts.


Friday Dec 16th

Duke Special joins forces with long-term brother-in-arms, clarinetist Ben Castle, for a concert focusing on original works inspired by the theatre, literature and the visual arts. The night will also feature songs from Duke’s collaboration with Andrew Doyle on Mark Twain’s Huckleberry Finn for a future production at the Lyric Theatre.

Each concert will be unique, and together they mark the end of an exciting year in which Duke Special was Artist in Residence at the Lyric Theatre. You could just go to one of them but why not join the lucky few and see all three shows!?


Saturday Dec 17th

Over the past 12 months, Duke has been touring throughout Ireland and at festivals across the UK and Europe. This concert will highlight songs from some of these adventures, including his exploration of old sheet music, new compositions and the world of Ivor Cutler. Duke will be joined by the writer and composer Barry Hyde (Futureheads).

Sunday Dec 18th

During his residency at the Lyric, Duke Special collaborated with an incredible traditional band from Belfast. This concert will showcase the results of this unique fusion of traditional music and pre-rock and roll song writing.
