Welcome to the second edition of Tempered, Belfast’s very own contemporary music week. Meshing local and international talent, Tempered brings the very best New Music on offer, to your doorstep.



This concert commemorates the 150th anniversary of the birth of Erik Satie (1886-1925). The evening celebrates his contribution to twentieth century and contemporary music – notably through the work of John Cage. Cage's piano solo 'In a Landscape' will be performed with contemporary dance to remember the early encounters of Cage and dancer Merce Cunningham at a time when both were questioning the role of narrative in performance.



In this concert the movements of the dancer are free and improvised but serve to invite Satie to be present with us, allowing him to enjoy his legacy in works by Cage, Arvo Pärt, Gavin Bryars and Max Richter performed by Brian Connor (piano) and Hugh Murray (violin), with Amy Prendergast (dancer).
