MOVING ON MUSIC PRESENTS YORKSTON/ THORNE/ KHAN

Type : Gigs

Yorkston/Thorne/Khan are an experimental group that includes James Yorkston, one of the most “influential singer/songwriters on the Scottish folk scene”, Suhail Yusuf Khan, award winning sarangi player and classical singer from New Delhi and Jon Thorne, best known as jazz double bass player with electro outfit Lamb.

This is a mosaic of Scottish-Irish-Indian-English music; raw, daring, and brave. Expect Yorkston’s familiar steel guitar strings to be pulled, pushed and bent into more unfamiliar acoustic drones, the bass dropping anchors through the floor.

It is more than simply “world music”. It is much more idiosyncratic. A temporary structure happily pitched by the side of the indie-folk, art music tradition, while its widening horizons extend back to the Sixties heyday of the Incredible String Band, all the time touching on folk, Indian classical, and indie music of today.

The result is a new kind of eclectic sound that has been wooing listeners and charming reviewers since the experiment began.

This gig is part of a few very select dates across Ireland, and a chance to see this remarkable band at the beginning of what looks to be an extraordinary journey.
