In this Supreme Hour

Type : Theatre

The days of suspense leading up to the Rising that begun on Monday 24th April 1916 are evoked in this innovative performance for voices, music, and stage.

Each line of the Proclamation of the Irish Republic is presented in correspondence with lines and phrases from poems by Patrick Pearse, Joseph Mary Plunkett and Thomas MacDonagh of the Irish Republican Brotherhood, as well as the writings of James Connolly and Constance Markievicz of The Irish Citizen Army.

Vladamir Lenin when preparing for the Russian Revolution in 1917 was inspired by the Leaders of the Easter Rising of 1916: Pearse, Clarke, Plunkett, MacDonagh, Connolly, Markievicz, Ceannt and MacDiarmada who were poets, writers, teachers and trade unionists. Their writings clearly reveal what they aimed to achieve and what they achieved in Aiséirí na Cásca as revolutionaries.
