woody pinesNashville-based roots music hotshots Woody Pines have wowed the crowds on both sides of the Atlantic. The last time they toured over here reviewers unanimously declared them to be one of the most entertaining acts on the Americana circuit.
Recently signed by Muddy Roots Records, they have a brand new album to promote. It’s produced by Grammy-winner Vance Powell – renowned for studio work with the likes of Jack White, JD McPherson, Seasick Steve and Beck.
Maverick magazine praised their last release as “an intoxicating blend of rural and urban stringband, country blues and jug band music”. After they appeared before him at the big Nelsonville Folk & Blues Festival, Billy Joe Shaver, the top gun Outlaw Country legend came on stage and declared: “They’re the best damn band I’ve ever heard!”
BBC radio presenter ‘Whispering’ Bob Harris is a fan and regularly features tracks on his show. Last year, he invited the band to appear on the stage he hosted at the big Country To Country event in London.
The trio was one of the headline acts flown over to Scotland to take part in the big Celtic Connections mid-winter bash two years ago, included for their “fiery moonshine spirit that sparkles with feelgood freshness”. They created such an impact that they were invited to come back over the Atlantic once again as one of the main visiting acts at last year’s Shetland Folk Festival.
