THE SANDRUNNERS

Type : Gigs

Forged in 2012 by co-songwriters John McLaverty and David McCann, Northern Ireland-based, genre-straddling collective The Sandrunners formally introduced themselves to the world in March, 2014 with their debut EP 'Angel Of The Northern Wind'.

They are constantly enlarging their repertoire with freshly penned material in a variety of styles. Their latest single ‘Speakeasy Polka’ has just been released to excellent reviews, and they are preparing their second EP, ‘The King of the Screen’ for release.

Since their launch the band have played a number of local gigs and festivals, including the Belfast Nashville Songwriters’ Festival and SunflowerFest. They have also played a short tour of Northern Holland and will return there for a second tour in March 2016.

Birthed in a secluded hideaway that's literally, as David notes, “between Slieve Binnian and the sea”, the Sandrunners' songs are best described as being a bit like a 24 year old malt whiskey-warm, mature and utterly intoxicating. Infused with Alan Price-esque melodies, the swagger of New

Orleans' soul and the charm of Randy Newman, the group's wide range of influences include everything from Irving Berlin to bluegrass, with the likes of the Band, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Elvis Costello and the Beatles playing a big part in their musical evolution.
