Here Come The Drumz…

My, how the years have flown... Celebrating its 5th birthday this weekend in suitably loud fashion is regular drum‘n'bass night Drumology, based at Voodoo on Fountain Street in Belfast.

Influences for the two residents, DJs Digiac and Point Blank, range from the early days of the 90s hardcore scene – not least long-time associate and regular guest Judge Dredd, one of the first to champion breakbeat driven music in the city – right through to contemporary drum ‘n bass and liquid-driven beats.

Having built up a loyal following since its inception, regulars at Drumology’s events all across the city are well used to quality music; from the residents, the local DJs and some truly memorable guest spots – the club having played host to such luminaries as Calibre, DJ Vapour, Slipmatt, and Bladerunner.

This trend is set to continue inside Voodoo on Saturday 14 June, as Drumology plays host to co-founder (with Goldie, Kemistry and Storm) of the Metalheadz record label, Doc Scott.

Early releases from the Coventry-born producer established Doc Scott as a huge name in the fledgling hardcore scene of the 90s.

It’s held that his 1992 EP Here Come The Drumz on the Reinforced label was a key track that laid the foundation for darkside drum'n'bass, and marked the beginning of his recording career with Goldie.

Scott’s single VIP Drums was the debut release on Metalheadz in 1994. He also went on to release tracks on LTJ Bukem’s Good Looking Records, before setting up his own label, 31 Records, in 1996.

A prolific recording career and a reputation for tearing up dancefloors all over the planet... Seems like the perfect man to bring to your birthday celebrations!

Best get down early to make yourself some elbow room near the front.

Doors open at 10pm, with a door tax of a mere £8. As usual, warm-up duties come from Digiac and Point Blank and host MC Kat.
