NOIRELAND Festival

NOIRELAND is a brand new international crime fiction festival, celebrating Ireland's love of the genre. The brainchild of David Torrans, who established the No Alibis Book Store twenty years ago, the festival takes place from 27-29 October 2017 at Belfast’s iconic Europa Hotel.

In its inaugural year they have set the bar very high. Among the many guests this year include the team behind Line of Duty, Robert Crais, Benjamin Black, Graeme Macrae Burnet, Adrian McKinty, Arne Dahl, Liz Nugent and Sophie Hannah.

NOIRELAND is not afraid to address some of the big topics of the day, with panels discussing how crime fiction can be used to address issues around identity, gender, religion and race. They will look at borders and what might happen in a post-Brexit world. And ask if rural life is as cosy as the tourist boards like to suggest.

Festival highlights include:
• Line of Duty has been named one of the best BBC shows of all time and it is filmed right here in Belfast. Creator Jed Mercurio, producer Stephen Wright and star Adrian Dunbar will talk about one of the best cop shows of all time.
• International bestseller Robert Crais is the creator of the buddy genre. He started his writing career writing iconic cop shows like Hill Street Blues, Cagney & Lacey and Miami Vice, then took the buddy dynamic to a whole new level in his Cole & Pike novels.
• John Banville, one of the greatest writers to emerge from Ireland, writes crime fiction as Benjamin Black. He will be talking about his other more Noirish writing persona.
• Multi-award winning Graeme Macrae Burnet whose His Bloody Project was shortlisted for the Booker Prize, appears hot on the heels of the publication of his new novel The Accident on the A35.
• Local boy Adrian McKinty has won or been nominated for every major crime award on the planet. One of Ireland most celebrated crime writers, Adrian is back home for the very first NOIRELAND.
• Arne Dahl is one of the great Scandi authors who have set the world alight in recent years. He will be going head to head with one of our great Celtic crime stars, the bestselling and award-winning Irish author Liz Nugent.

NOIRELAND takes place Friday 27 October – Sunday 29 October, 2017. Tickets are on sale now and available here - noireland.com. Keep up to date at @noirelandfest on Facebook & Twitter.
