Belfast Photo Festival

Launched today the city-wide collection of events is hailed as a “celebration of the photographic image”, showcasing “a variety of stunning exhibits by the cream of local and global talent.”

The inaugural festival which took place in 2011, brought over 30,000 visitors to exhibitions and achieved international acclaim as one of the most dynamic first festivals in the Ireland and UK as well as widespread recognition from some of the biggest names in global photography.

This year, organisers hope to encourage an even wider enjoyment of the photographic medium with a packed programme suitable for all ages, tastes and backgrounds.

The casually curious, photo-enthusiasts, professionals and even passers-by will find something stimulating, striking or interactive taking place right across the city during the Festival.

Roger Ballen, Mirko Martins and Cedric Delsaux are among the internationally renowned-names at the festival, alongside a dizzying array of workshops, film screenings, portfolio reviews, tours and live events, which offer participation and enjoyment of the photographic medium and Northern Ireland’s rich photographic heritage. There’s also a series of workshops lead by the prestigious international photographic co-operative, Magnum Photo.

Highlights throughout the festival run include ‘On-Set’(Ulster Museum), which presents behind the scenes photography taken during the filming of major features shot in Northern Ireland, including HBO’s highly successful series Game of Thrones. Or if you visit The Naughton Gallery (Queens University) you’ll witness the Star Wars Universe merge seamlessly into the world’s most modern cities within Cedric Delsaux’s series ‘Dark Lens.’
